This photograph was taken in Iceland during the emergence of a new volcanic eruption in 2023 — a geological event that marked the birth of fresh land. In the distance, molten lava erupts from the Earth’s surface, illuminating the surrounding darkness with an intense, primal glow. Rivers of heat and fire pulse beneath the surface, evoking the image of arteries carrying lifeblood through a living organism.
The foreground reveals hardened volcanic textures, sculpted by time, pressure, and unimaginable heat. Cool blue tones of solidified rock contrast sharply with the incandescent eruption beyond, creating a powerful dialogue between permanence and volatility — between what has already formed and what is still becoming. Very few photographs exist of this eruption.
